We know that anyone can become a single parent and it’s important to us that we support them.
We want to create a place where all single parents feel welcomed and included.
That’s why we are committed to actively diversifying our membership, our team and our advisory group.
BAME Lone Parents Network Youth Programme aims to improve BAME children and youth on a holistic level. We specifically improve their quality of life through trainings, seminars, social events, mentorship, educational support and developing their awareness of the consequences of life choices, an awareness that come with responsibilities.
Support to develop a deep awareness of academic strengths and available opportunities, sporting and career opportunities that are available to them and then focusing especially on the socioeconomic challenges that BAME youth face in society.
BAME Lone Parents Network helps BAME vulnerable people with various social issues and with mental health difficulties. We reduce isolation and social exclusion by advancing social cohesion through community events and making referrals to community social groups.
BAME Lone Parents Network also assist vulnerable BAME communities who have been out of work for long period due to illness, disability or lack of education and qualifications with our “BAME one step to work” initiative. This initiative helps them to work with us without judgement of their ability, disability or previous work experience.
This help BAME communities to engage in British civic life and thereby contribute to the wider society socially and economically. This also help to strengthen community spirit, promote, empower, contribute to the British economy, and enhance social cohesion and integration for BAME communities at large.
Raising a family is a journey — one that changes both parents and kids. If you’re focused on making ends meet, it’s easy to overlook mental health. It’s no surprise that single parents often feel stressed, worn out or worse.
Working with a team of licensed social workers, therapists and other mental health professionals, we provide counselling services for single parent families. There are many topics counselling can help with:
We at BAME Lone Parents Network provide counselling services for single parent families. Our aim is to assist single parents and their children with professional mental, spiritual and health counselling services through a wide network of licensed, trained, experienced and accredited psychologists, marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, and licensed professional counsellors.
We can connect you or your child with a temporary counsellor to help with a specific issue or incident, or with a longer term partnership where you’ll work to develop more positive habits and behaviours.
Raising a family on a single income is harder than ever before. Having access to a little extra each month can mean less stress and fewer difficult choices — like having to decide between putting food on the table and keeping the heat on during the winter.
Our financial aid programs range from direct support and microlending to help with food and clothing. We can connect you with government programs and subsidies, and walk you through the application process to increase your chances of acceptance.
How we support single parents:
Support for grant application for appliances for the home use, including:
How we support the elderly:
HOME ESSENTIALS grants help with the cost of replacing everyday items in the home (white goods and furnishings), small home repairs and mobility adaptations.
DIGITAL CONNECTION grants are to help older people get online and stay connected and can be used towards the cost of equipment such as tablets and smartphones as well as broadband and data costs.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT grants to help with unexpected bills and large costs such as utility bills, funeral costs for loved ones, moving fees etc.
ESSENTIAL LIVING COSTS grants for everyday expenses including clothing, food, medicines, books, travel to medical appointments or other activities.
We are here to help and are always happy to discuss the viability of a grant request if it’s not on this list – get in touch to find out more.
Food and Clothing banks are great ways to provide immediate support to those in need. While the quality, quantity and consistency of such banks can differ depending on the respective providers, we work closely with them to help fulfil our clients’ needs. We collect donations to redistribute to help families and individuals in need. No one should go hungry while we can help it. We are very grateful for your donations and support.
BAME Lone Parents Network is building a network of role models, business entrepreneurs, mentors, heroes in education, sport and art. We also provides a platform where BAME communities can meet to share stories, give voice to voiceless, and discover the values they have in common, without judgement.
Through collaborations with various non-profit organisations, self-donations, and well-wishers in Africa, UK and beyond, we have managed to help children, vulnerable young/adult people, and people with any disability challenges. We have helped people with physical disabilities by donating laptops and sewing machines and other technology to start businesses.
We offer training in First Aid, Health and Safety, Food Hygiene, Manual Handling, Customer Service, Confidence Building and Assertiveness, various Microsoft office packages and many courses by e-learning.
Moreover, our training deliveries would ensure that the single parents and their children will learn employability skills in preparation to look for work and receive training in getting their CVs to attract the right employers, effective job application, covering letters, completing application forms, interview skills, acting on feedbacks and the whole job search process.
The BAME Lone Parents Network centre will be accessible to everyone in the community whether employed or unemployed; although discounted fees may be required of the employed while funding would be sourced for the unemployed on benefits.
Also, we aim to deliver training/courses for SMEs and local organisations on site (in-house courses) or through delegates’ attendance at our centre.
The centre will deliver training on:
Employability skills training:
These sessions focus on:
Mentoring/coaching:
GLCFI, a local Christian Fellowship, distributes food to people who need it once a month through GLCFI Food Bank (GFB).
From this we have received referrals to support local people through mentoring and employability training.
We also refer service users to this initiative to assist them with food and toiletries every month. This has helped a lot of service users to stay focussed on their goals and not worry about daily necessities.
The GLCFI food bank distributed foods to BAME Members throughout London during Christmas also providing vital weekly support to our service users.
There is a Youth Empowerment forum on Mondays for young people to develop in various aspects of life in order to prepare for the future.
